Recently I received an email to check out the book Surviving Club Soccer. A Parent’s Journey. by Shari Nomady and Yvette Brown. The book is currently free on Amazon, so I downloaded it to my Kindle using my personal Prime account and it was a quick read during soccer practice. Written by a Cal South mom whose daughter played all the way through a D1 college, this book offers straightforward, no nonsense guidance in easy to understand language.
Chapters on choosing a club and coach, setting your expectations and financial estimations are invaluable for a first time club soccer parent, and the book also has some nuggets of wisdom for those of us who have been in the “system” a long time. The chapter, “Everyone Will Lie to you at Some Point” really resonated with me… as much as we all think it won’t happen to us, invariably it does. Again, things that would have been nice to know from the beginning. I also loved reading the final chapter by the author’s daughter sharing her experiences in club and beyond.
I really wish this book had been around when I was a newbie! One of the reasons I started this blog was because I couldn’t find the information I wanted. When I managed to find out the information I wanted, I decided that I should share with others. This seems to be a shared mission with the author and I will definitely be recommending this book to friends. I also appreciated her referencing my blog as a resource- awesome!

Thanks for the info about this book. I downloaded it to my Kindle and am looking forward to reading it. Our club soccer player is only nine years old, but it’s her third year playing club soccer so we aren’t total newbies. I look forward to the insight from this book. So cool about your blog being mentioned, too!
Great! Even though this is our seventh season I still find out new things all the time. Thanks for reading!
